Reduced Cost Spay/Neuter Surgery
Low-Income Families May Qualify for Program

WISCONSIN –Thought 101 Dalmations was too many? Kitten season is upon us! Humane societies and animal shelters across the state are flooded with kittens this time of year. While shelters work hard to adopt these adorable kittens into loving homes, the influx of kittens is a reminder that cat overpopulation is a serious problem in Wisconsin.

Unaltered cats reproduce at astounding rates. In fact, according to Spay USA, an unspayed female cat, her mate and their offspring having just 2 litters per year can produce as many as 11,606,077 cats in 9 years.

Spay Wisconsin is asking animal guardians to do their part this spring by getting their animals spayed and neutered. "I can't afford it" is not a good excuse. Spay Wisconsin connects low-income people with clinics willing to do affordable spay/neuter surgeries for their animals. The program provides a fantastic opportunity for families who understand the benefit of spaying or neutering their animal but can't afford the procedure.

Spaying and neutering not only reduces animal overpopulation and ensures a safe and healthy future for animals in Wisconsin, but also offers considerable health and behavior benefits to animals and their families. After spay/neuter surgery, undesirable mating behaviors are often significantly reduced or eliminated, and animals who have this procedure are less likely to develop certain types of cancer.
