Fixing the Frisky Feline in Honor of Spay Day
Spay Wisconsin helps low-income families access affordable spay/neuter services
WISCONSIN - Spay Day USA is a national day of action to promote spaying or neutering companion animals. During Spay Day USA, many veterinarians, animal welfare professionals, business owners and citizens help provide spay/neuter services and promote the sterilization of companion animals.
Spay Wisconsin encourages low-income families to make an appointment to have their animal spayed or neutered this Spay Day. If you are struggling financially, Spay Wisconsin can help find low-cost spay/neuter services. Spay Wisconsin is a statewide network of clinics and veterinarians willing to perform spay/neuter services for animals whose families may not otherwise be able to afford this important surgery. To access this program, call our toll-free hotline, (877) 510-PETS or check out www.animalfriendly.org.
The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) reports that four million cats and dogs—about one every eight seconds—are euthanized in U.S. shelters every year. Sterilization surgery is an effective tool to combat overpopulation and prevent animal suffering.
Spaying or neutering your animal also has multiple health benefits. Spaying your female dog or cat helps prevent mammary tumors, uterine and ovarian cancer. Neutering your male dog or cat helps prevent testicular tumors. Spaying or neutering your companion animal also can reduce or eliminate certain behavioral problems. Spaying your female cat will prevent vocalization and urine spraying associated with going into heat. Neutering also reduces the incidence of urine spraying in male cats.
